it keeps making a farty-moaning noise, especially when it's windy

is it an insulation problem -it's in my front room and it's really anoying!

One of the panels will be loose, the noise is it vibrating in the wind. If you can work out which panel it is then you can wedge in slivers of card to try and stop it.

Our back door does this sometimes.

ooo -hadn't considered the panels

If the panels are loose you probably have a roaring gale through the door.

So yes, it's probably also a heat loss-problem ? quite a significant one if it's into your front room rather than a hallway. You could try sealing round the panels with a flexible wood filler like Ronseal or decorator's caulking.

I gave up and just replaced my door completely. Even with a curtain the place was horrendously cold, and the new door has made a real difference.

You can get composite doors with good thermal properties which meet Part L building regs. If you still want a solid wood door, the improvement will be more limited but still better than actual holes.

can't feel any lose panels but it is definitely coming from the center of the door

I've got a curtain over it which helps but think I might have to start saving up as I would want a realistic composite door (Victorian terrace)

is there a letterbox? have you tried pressing on the keyhole cover?
