I foolishly had the sitting room painted from magnolia to duck-egg blue without deciding on other furnishings! Anyone go any nice ideas for curtains? Thank you in advance!

cream or white background with duck egg pattern I'd say but then I'm a bit boring when it comes to decoration!

PestoCaffeinisto · 28/11/2011 16:38

cream (with lining)

SinicalSal · 28/11/2011 16:52

maybe a kind of subtle silver pattern on a light backgrounnd

eeyore2 · 28/11/2011 16:53

Cream or to make more of a statement a mid-grey

PumpkinIroning · 28/11/2011 16:54

Winter white, and take the upholstery and walls into account.

teacoupons · 28/11/2011 16:58

Cream or brown. I love duck egg blue with dark wood colours.

Olivetti · 28/11/2011 17:00

Thanks! My instincts say cream, but some people are suggesting CLARET! I can't see that myself. Any other colours?

Would you shoot me if I suggested a bright pink? Really bright, but only as an accent on a cream background. Alternatively chocolate brown.

Olivetti · 28/11/2011 17:07

Those are quite nice bran, thanks! Will certainly look at the rest of the website.

Pascha, no, I wouldn't shoot you! I have a completely open mind on this. Only one thing I am set on - am trying to banish brown, orange, earthy tones from sitting room.

Cream, taupe, gold, rich claret.

Which room is it? What's on the floor?

LePruneDeMaTante · 28/11/2011 17:22

Don't do a dark colour: the overall effect will be far, far too dark unless you have massive windows. And even if you do: don't do claret - ye gods!

I'd do light silver grey with white, or cream with a greyish/greige motif.

Olivetti · 28/11/2011 17:24

Sitting room - plain floorboards, but also need a big rug. Swedes, would you say claret is more in the red or purple tones?

What shade of Duck Egg have you used? I've found it varies enormously

Swedes2 · 28/11/2011 17:59

Cream is nice but it's a very summery look. I would want something richer for a sitting room. I think very plain long gold velvet curtains would look heavenly as would long claret curtains, like this sort of thing

Or perhaps a plaid curtian if your sofas are plani, something like this lovely frabric from Zoffany

7to25 · 28/11/2011 18:06

bronze silk

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 28/11/2011 18:10

I was thinking a big bold floral pattern could go well with duck-egg blue walls ?
WDYT ?

Ingles2 · 28/11/2011 18:12

I had a duck egg room once, I had shocking pink velvet curtains and it was gorgeous!
Also lovely with chocolate brown

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 28/11/2011 18:12

Anyway some sort of pattern, and agree with lighter cream shades over dark ones.

Swedes2 · 28/11/2011 18:13

Ingles2 Sounds lovely.

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 28/11/2011 18:13

Quite like the pink suggestion - but perhaps not too much of it Smile

MitziKinsky · 28/11/2011 18:13

Anything pattern with a bit of duck egg in, or sandy coloured (darker than beige). You then need to tie the two together somehow.

Ingles2 · 28/11/2011 18:26

was gorgeous swedes Smile
I now have a really old house which only seems to suit various shades of sludge Grin
apart from my room, which is still a turquoise colour

CaipirinhasAllRound · 29/11/2011 18:27

Have you seen the curtains on the Monsoon website?
