Built-in Bathroom Furniture - Is It All Naff?

We are redoing our bathroom and for plumbing reasons we need to have built in furniture for the sinks (2 No.) to be semi-recessed/inset into.

Are there any nice built-in units? Or will I have to have something handbuilt?

I'm finding this so difficult as I'm not remotely interested in bathrooms. It's just that our ensuite has reached the point where not even being sparkling clean makes it look half-decent. It even has a whirlpool bath. Grin I keep shelving the job for another year, and another. And now the time has come.

I like plain and traditional more than I like glitzy and contemporary.

I DON'T want a bathroom with a WOW factor, I want an easy to clean, space that will still look good in 5 years.

I've chosen
Bath
Taps and attached handshower
Towel rails
Sinks
Taps
Loo
Shower tray
Shower door

I'm struggling with:
built in base units to take 2 sinks
shower - what sort? We currently have a Hansgrohe Pharo panel which is totally fantastic but for its looks. I'd like a shower that switches between overhead and handshower, not bothered about bodyjets or steam or anything.

I'd be eternally grateful for assistance.

We had one made based on a simPler version of a fired earth cupboard which I painted. Put a White stone top on top.

newgirl - thanks I'll look at Fired eARTH.

[SHOCK] £3,500 for a bathroom cabinet. Heck.

We got a local company who do built in wardrobes and stuff to work with the builders and do ours. They built in 2 double cupboards with sinks sunk in "worktop", we had a huge mirror put on the wall and they built a pelmet with lights in above it.

On the other side of the room they built a cupboard like a wardrobe but shelved inside and the pelmet over that extends across a flat tiled bit at the end of the bath with lights in and glass shelves under (if that makes sense)

Anyway, we like it and it's very practical

Timidviper - sounds great. But it also sounds very expensive.

Our last bathroom was from Wickes - pictures on profile.

I don't think bathroom furniture is naff; it is really useful and makes it look quite streamlined. With everything boxed in there's no pipework to collect dust, and makes cleaning quicker and easier.

Sidge, Thank you very much. What a difference, amazing how it looks so much bigger with the units in it, isn't it?

I know! But ours cost 800 plus paint bit cheeky but hey - if you can find a good carpenter you could show them and ask?

Thank you, I think it was lovely and such an improvement. I loved my bathroom - we have since moved and my new bathroom (though nice) isn't remotely comparable

Our bathroom cost about 5,000 all in. Toilet, sink, bath, shower cubicle and shower, tiling, flooring, furniture, taps and labour.

MrsJAlfredPrufrock · 22/11/2011 22:35

Sidge, Ahhhh shame you had to leave it behind. I was hoping to spend a little less. Not sure if I'll manage it though.

Local companies are worth checking out OP, sometimes cheaper than you think. Can't remember what ours cost now but it was nowhere near the price of the Fired Earth cabinet mentioned above

Try Utopia as they have some very flexible options and good build quality.
