Further to my other thread (we have subsidence due most likely to nearby trees).

Loss adjuster has said we will have to move out for work to be done. Has anyone done this. How does it work -can you choose where to live/rent. Mum is anxious about this as she has bad arthritis can cant do stairs etc.

Thanks

I used to be a lodger in a house where the owner and her family (and lodgers) had to move out for underpinning work needed because of tree roots.

She was given a budget, and could rent wherever she liked. She was also provided with storage facilities as the place she rented was smaller than her own house.

Yes, you will definitely need to move out, the work is very very noisy and messy, and goes on a long time.

Yes! And very recently. Ours was only a few days (5) so they would have booked us a hotel. We chose to go stay with family instead to make our own lives easier. But they would have covered suitable accommodation for us and our cats. If it had been a longer thing it would have been a rental.

Make it clear that the accomodation needs to have suitable access for your mum. That's not an optional thing you can do without, it's a requirement. Same for anything else you will need. Even if they pick, it has to meet those kinds of requirements.

Thankyou Misshonk and akandra that is very reassuring to know. Hope things get moving very soon then in that case.
