We're having wardrobes built into our bedroom. We've agreed a tentative quote and know how wide and tall the wardrobes will be, but I need to let the man know how to build the interior i.e. where will sehlves and hanging rails go. I don't know what I want and think it would be helpful to see some other designs. Can anyone point me in the direction of some pictures or do you have a configuration of double wardrobes that works well for you?

Oh - they will be floor to ceiling. The very top will be cupboards with separate doors.

Our rooms have all fitted wardrobes. For my dh he has a reail at top and bottom and shelves for jumpers etc. Mine has one full length section for longer dresses and coats. The dc's are a rail straight accross with a shelf on top and two shelves running along the bottom, as their clothes are bot as long.
Ikea is pretty good for ideas.

I second looking at Ikea for ideas on how to divide the space. Work out how much long hanging space you need - long dresses, coats etc. This will probably be a small percentage of the overall hanging space, so for the rest of it divide it into two so you have two rails. You need 1m from pole to base for short hanging, and 1.4m for long hanging (unless you have ballgowns!). Wardrobes should be 60cm deep to allow for hangers and clothes. Shoes can go in compartments if you want but I find it easier just to stack them in boxes on the floor of the wardrobe. Remember you need space for tall boots. Cupboards at the top can be used for little used things - I keep hats (I have no idea why, never wear them Grin), handbags, scarves in boxes on the top shelves. HTH

Would be good if you could have them made so you can use the IKEA Pax interior fittings. There are eg wire pull out baskets, shelves, rails, shoe racks, divided drawers for belts/socks etc etc.
Have a look at the IKEA website, I think there is a PAX planning tool on there.
