Solicitor for house sale question...

dilbertina · 16/11/2011 22:01

We have another offer - hooray! This buyer supposedly is not sale dependent so might all happen quick.

So, solicitors. When we moved into this house we used friend of a friend solicitor in the county we were moving from. Very happy with them but now they are quite a way away. Is there any advantage in using a "local" solicitor? Or indeed is there an advantage using same solicitor who has handled sale/purchase of a particular property before?

Thanks in advance for any opinions!

We used a solicitor in a completely different area of the country from where we were buying/ selling. Only disadvantage was having to go to his office to sign contracts - but I think that can be done by post. You do need a solicitor who is happy to email though otherwise you'll be forever leaving phone messages.

If you've found a solicitor you're happy with I'd stick with them. No real advantage to having them local - my solicitor wasn't - contracts can be signed by post, other communication can be sorted by email &/or phone.

Many thanks! We are living in France at the moment so no solicitor is going to be local to us! Will probably go for the one we used before then. (If anything actually happens of course - at the moment no guarantees of that!)
