What colour do you suggest I should use in an east-facing living room?

I've tried looking online with no definitive results. This is supposedly as difficult aspect as the light changes throughout the day. Great! To complicate it, this room leads on to a dining room via double doors. The dining room has now been extended and forms part of an L-shaped kitchen-diner set-up. All rooms need painting so colours will need to flow. Extension bit is west-facing.

Any colour scheme suggestions please?

I would go with a white with a green undertone and use the same in both rooms. Alternatively, a pale green in the living room with white woodwork and white in the kitchen diner with pale green woodwork.

Thanks for ideas. (Have just been eating some flatbread , strangely enough). I'm worried that both greeny white/pale green may look too cold? I was thinking of a deep golden yellow type colour (which would be quite bold for me) but I'm not sure I want to continue a yellow theme through other rooms.

Swedish, you may be right, I am no interior designer and I can spend hours dithering over my room colours Smile

In my experience though, green is actually a warm, serene colour. And a delicate, pale green would allow light in...F&B have some lovely shades, like Tunsgate green. But it does depend on the style of the house, the colour of the floors, ceiling height, amount of windows etc.

We have also used Dulux space and light morning glory, which is a very light buttery cream. It certainly brightens the space with no shadow areas.

Found this on the F&B website www.farrow-ball.com/how-light-affects-colour/content/fcp-content

Farrow and Ball lime white is a good colour- warm or slightly green in different lights. I have it in south-east facing rooms and it looks very nice in my opinion!
Another colour with a slightly yellow tone is white tie.

Thanks for looking flatbread I have a tester pot for one of those pale greens (Pale Powder?) on the F&B link so could try that out in here. It ispale though, and looks quite cold.

greyvix - thanks for suggestions as well. Think I'm looking for a definite colour though. I think? Confused

Right, have got a sample of Pale Powder on the wall. It looks really insipid and cold to me. Don't like it.

Anyone got an east-facing room that they've decorated and are really happy with? I'm trying to avoid beige/truffle type colours but maybe that's what I need? A warm olive/khaki colour might work?

Hi, just used Dulux Overtly Olive and very pleased with it. Used in the kitchen though not a lounge

I have an east facing sitting room which is always colder than the rest of the house - about to paint it F&B Cornforth White. It comes up a warm grey.

SwedishEdith · 14/11/2011 16:13

Oh, they both sound nice. Can you have a warm grey? I think, since time is short, I'll just go for white pre-xmas and then experiment a bit when feel less pressured. Thanks for suggestions though.

Aha - we have the same thing. East facing, and double doors through to dining room. We went for a grey. First tried Dulux's Dove, which was a hideous purpley colour. Then did lots of online research - including a thread on here which I'll try to link for you. Ended up with Dulux Dusted Moss 2. It is very like F+B Cornforth White, but half the price and more durable. It looks lovely, and we're really pleased with it. (We also have Dulux's Heron in another room. Nice, but has a bluey tinge).
Here is the link re grey, if you're interested!

NoseyNooNoo · 14/11/2011 21:55

We have Dulux Timeless in our North facing lounge. It's fab. A really warm off-white.

daisie4 · 15/11/2011 07:55

Our frony rooms are east facing - or sitting room is f&b shaded white and office is bone - which is really greeny in that room but not in the hall where we've also used it. I originally painted the office pale powder and it looked so cold and clear - not the soft smokey blue I was after Confused

We have an east facing living room and have painted the walls a creamy colour - I think it was Dulux's Ivory Lace. We have an oak floor and this colour seems to work well with it. Warm, without being too overpowering, and not as neutral as Magnolia would be. We have deep red curtains and cushions which seem to go nicely.

upstairs f&b borrowed light which looks really good with early morning sun, downstairs half dulux magnolia half f&b some sort of dusky pink, although it goes the length of the house so is west facing for sunset.
