Rising damp - injectable damp proof treatment or Vandex?

Does anyone know about this stuff? My DH is driving me nuts trying to decide whether to inject or vandex (coat) areas of rising damp in new house. Everyone except one specialist says Vandex I've got no idea.

We need to decide soon or else I'll divorce him and then it won't matter how we damp proof the new house

Waterproof coatings will only seal the moisture into the wall not stop rising damp. If the damp walls are already plastered this will only exacerbate the problem.

What 'specialists' have you consulted?

where are these areas of damp? how high up the wall? Is it in rooms with pipes and sanitary appliances?

have you had a look outside for earth or paths laid against the external wall, and how far are they below finished floor level? and have you looked at gutters and downpipes in heavy rain to see if they leak?

how old is the house and what is it made of? what are the floors made of?

You need to find out why you have damp first tbh - check out drains and guttering first, and check for a breach of dpc. Are any airbricks blocked up ?

PigletJohn - rising damp is different than penetrating damp (gutters leaking etc) - didn't know this until a couple of months ago when we bought a house with rising damp.

We have just had the plaster hacked off and walls injected. We had 4 different people look at it and everyone suggested the same. Isn't Vandex a preventative solution - i.e. for tanking and preventing a problem in the future (particularly in basements?) I would not have thought this was a solution if you already had damp?

Hi - the damp is quite high and there are issues outside with ground levels and drainage which we'll resolve. Those of you who said Vandex will only deal with penetrative damp are right - injectable deals with Vandex - but the problem is that there's so much controversy around whether injectable damp proofing even works, that we're in a loop. We'll probably go for it, if only because it gives a guarantee but we're pretty sceptical

"quite high" and "issues" doesn't give enough enformation, so far you can only get guesses rather than advice.
