Planning application query (non technical)

Very quick question but was wondering if when you submit a planning application the council writes to your immediate plans advising of your application?

Sorry on my phone. Do they write to your immediate neighbours?

It depends on your council. Some only advertise in the local paper and via site notices now to save money.

It would be courteous to let your neighbours know before/ as soon as you apply though!

When we submitted an application it went to neighbours, not just immediate neighbours, and also had to be considered by the local parish council - which can include quite a broad range of local luminaries.

We spoke with our immediate neighbours and made sure they were OK with the plans. A friend of mine who had gone through a similar process in another county advised turning up at the parish council meeting where your application is discussed although we didn't bother.

I guess it may depend on the scale of what you are planning to do. We were applying for a fairly large extension.

Usually yes.

In addition, as regards work adjacent to neighbouring properties the Party Wall Act may apply in which case you will have to notify your neighbours.
