Another paint question - help with grey

I really hope someone can help, as we're in the middle of painting... and having a paint nightmare (if that is possible). We wanted a grey for the sitting room / dining room (big, knocked through room, that faces east-west with big windows both ends).

We went for Dulux Trade Dove. Whatever it looks like here, it came out a really purply colour. Much more like Lavender Haze on that same link. The Dulux people have been really good and mixed it up twice, because they agreed that it wasn't as it should be. It is hideous! (Sorry, if you like lavender purple!)

Need to make a quick decision over the weekend - and am thinking of getting a Farrow and Ball colour (albeit will probably get them to scan in and produce a Dulux paint).

So - I'm looking for a grey that isn't a green grey, but isn't a purple grey either. Has anyone any brilliant ideas???
Pleeeese... before I go mad!
thanks,
madcows

Also I really like Pale Walnut by Crown. Have that in the living room, it's a creamy grey, really subtle and lovely and not cold at all.

hi,any dulux supplier can match the colour you are after.if you can take a sample of anything you might have with the exact colour you are after, they can just scan it & get exact matchup

Would definitey agree that Blackened is more like a pale blue. I also was disppointed with it.

I have a white gloss kitchen and am getting a glass splashback fitted in between the kitchen worktop and bottom of overhead kitchen cupboards and of course behind oven and below chimney hood. I'm doing this as opposed to tiling. I want a grey colour am thinking of using goosewing, dove or misty mirror? Anyone seen any nice grey splashbacks or could offer advice.

How many costs did you need with cornforth white? I'm really fancy it in my study but can't face doing 3 coats! Those of you who had dulux colour match it - did you still need multiple coats?

WetAugust · 30/08/2013 17:41

Homebase do a grey splashback. B&Q do a brownish grey on. But I was searching online for them this afternoon and the selection is bigger, colour choice greater and much cheaper online.

We have dulux polished pebble matt emulsion with white eggshell. It is lovely, definitely no purple, blue, green or mud in it - it is what I would descitbe as dove grey!

Looks pale on the swatch but its lovely.

Dusted Moss 3 by Dulux is almost identical to Cornforth White when up, not on a tester though.

I recommend Darrow and ball for grey definitely! I wanted to paint floors grey and farrow and ball have the best selection of grey the regulars just don't cut it, we went for corn forth white which was perfect for us but some of their darker greys look beautiful too. Good luck

BlackMogul · 30/08/2013 18:02

Can't believe this. Just finished bedroom in Cornforth White! Skimming Stone is a paler grey. Bedroom is largish, 20 x 20 ft with two large windows facing north and east so gets morning light. Cornforth White is a true grey and looks good with crisp white woodwork. Will get a richly covered ottoman/ large stool to add texture. Have also used lamp room grey in dining room and Blackened in a smaller bedroom and Elephants Breath in another larger bedroom! I am a bit of a grey fan but prefer this to the creamier shades.

spotty26 · 30/08/2013 18:36

I love Cornforth White so I am sure the real thing looks stunning...and am normally F and B all the way but doing a big house up on a limited budget so had to go Dulux Trade :(

However, looking good so far and meant I could splash out on the Cox and Cox bar stools I posted about. Wahey.

sweetiepie1979 · 30/08/2013 21:53

Crown trade are pretty good at colour matching. I wanted to use their clean extreme paint in the kitchen but I chose a farroe and ball colour and they did it. Anyway OP hope you got the grey you like

Pannacotta · 30/08/2013 22:02

Yes I agree sweetie, Crown do a very good colour match to F&B as so Leyland.

Loushaddick · 04/12/2013 14:29

We have strong white on walls and pavilion grey on woodwork so opposite to newgirl68.
