Help me clean this bathroom!

Please help me ladies (and gents ....) We have just bought a house. The bathroom is OK ish - however, I don't think the previous owner did a huge amount of cleaning..... now I am trying not to be anal about it - but I would love to have this bathroom sparkling. I have already had one good go at it - the specific issues are: bits of black mould/lots of water marks/limescale and what seems to be general ingrained dirt around the standalone shower... does anyone have any great solutions? Anything I should be using?

Many thanks

Dettol mould and mildew is fab but otherwise you may need to re-seal and re-grout.

FrozenChocolate · 02/11/2011 14:39

green scourer and detergent should clean it, then regrouting etc?

ElbowFan · 02/11/2011 17:44

Milton shifts mould a treat.
Lemon juice is good for shifting limescale as is white vinegar.
Otherwise its just an old toothbrush and Cif

Domestos Grot Buster for the mould. It is totally the shit. You put it on and leave it. Come back to sparkles.

Where can you buy this grotbuster? I look every time I go to one of the many supermarkets round here, but can never find it. I use HG mould remover from Homebase, which does the same thing: spray and leave and come back to gleaming white tiles just don't breathe.

My local sainsburys and waitrose have it. It's the one in the black bottle. It transformed my life

Thanks!

Loving the grotbuster! I use when when tenets move out and leave it yucky. Usually in Asda but open the window as its potent!

GrendelsMum · 03/11/2011 08:30

I just put thick bleach on to the mildewed areas with an old toothbrush, leave it half an hour or so, and then come back and scrub with the toothbrush. Second application if necessary.

I've not had real success with really bad limescale, though. I think it may need many repeated brief applications of vinegar / lemon / viakal, which I can't work up the effort to do.

Bonsoir · 03/11/2011 08:33

I would have thought that re-sealing and re-grouting would be a good idea, as anchovies suggests.

Really bad limescale is surprisingly easy to shift if you use Viakal and one of those oversized battery-operated toothbrush affairs (Lakeland) to scrub at it.

MaryPoppinsMagic · 03/11/2011 08:35

With the limescale, does it need to be fresh squeezed lemon or can it be the liquid lemon like you buy for pancakes??

This grotbuster - can you use it on grout?

My bathroom is clean but mould and limescale make it look awful!

thestringcheesemassacre · 03/11/2011 09:22

Yes grotbuster on grout. Magic

I paste up soda crystals and get an old toothbrush and use that on the hard to reach places. Then I use soda crystals in water for everything else, after cif cream cleaner. Normally comes up sparkling.
