Kitchen bin - integrated or out?

We are having a new kitchen fitted. Should we go for a built in/integrated type bin or a free standing brabantia bin? What is people's experience? My worry is with a built in one the cupboard will get dirty...

For me it would depend on how easy it would be to take out of the cupboard and bleach etc. If that's not an issue then have an integrated one. We have a separate one because I'm a bit funny about it smelling but that's just me Smile

Thanks - The smell is another one of my concerns - plus capacity looks a lot smaller so i reckon i may have to empty it out more.

This week i have removed about 8 billion toys/important documents/sets of keys from our free standing brabantia. If you have small children or might ever have them in your house I would go for integrated.

Get this one. Doesn't look much but works a treat. Never any mess in the cupboard and so easy to take out and clean.

Thanks for the link ben 10. My youngest is 5 so not many bin mishaps these days -well that i know of!

Up until a few months ago I would have said integrated just because the kitchen looks neater. But, I've changed my mind. Not so much because of the mess issue but mainly because it's so much easier to bung stuff in a separate bin, especially if you have grubby hands. At least it is if you get a bin with a touch or sensor opening lid like a brabantia or the cheaper ones here. No need to open the cupboard door.

Plus, you get a whole kitchen cabinet that isn't taken up by a bin...

Personal choice but for me I'd go for standalone everytime. If only because it saves that extra step of opening the cabinet door then lifting the bin lid, when you have crumbs/something sticky/dripping that's the last thing you need.

We had the luxury of a kitchen refit and I specifically planned the bin area: it's got a small countertop with an overhead cabinet, and a nice big space underneath for the bin. It's great as keeps the bin easily accessible/cleanable without it standing in the way which is otherwise the problem with freestanding bins.

Just to add the freestanding bins are bigger: our current bin can usually take a whole week's worth of garbage, those little inside-cabinet bins fill up really fast. My in-laws have one of these and drives me nuts, keep having to put in a new bag and there's always someone dropping a last bit of trash on the overflowing minibin so spills into the cabinet and needs cleaning.
