SpringHeeledJack · 02/11/2011 09:17

...you all came up good on poncetastic slate worktops

can you do the same for rubber floors?

am thinking they're a bit ethical and a bit nice. Am worried about dogs' toenails and overpowering smell, though. Would be for dining room and teeny tiny kitchen

can anyone help?

if I don't get back to you instanter it's because I'm packing my house and avoiding dead mice so back later

tia

I don't, but I think they are nice. Dont get nobbly rubber, all the nobbles get grimey around their bases. Top tip.

SpringHeeledJack · 02/11/2011 09:22

I do like the looky of the nobbly ones, but remember trying to drag metal chairs over them in Redcar library as a nipper

it was hard work

thanks for tip- have Noted It

Me old stomping ground...

funnypeculiar · 02/11/2011 09:35

We used to have one in old flat - we only had it in (teeny tiny) bathroom and it didn't smell at all that I ever noticed. We had nobbles and they did, indeed, get grubby.

HerdOfTinyElephants · 02/11/2011 09:42

We don't have a rubber floor as such, but have rubber stairs (or, more accurately, rubber floorcovering on the stairs, although rubber stairs would be good) and it doesn't smell at all (the textured bits do get grubby and have to be enthusiastically scrubbed, though).

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 02/11/2011 09:55

Had woven recycled rubber tyres, as flooring in both bathrooms. Looked like hessian, was available in a few different colours.

Loved it because it was warm under foot, could be hoovered, mopped, totally wet through, but the water didn't get to the floorboards.

Would love it in now, in our new house, bathrooms all have carpet.

Think it was about £60 sq m, 7 years ago, from the Unnatural Flooring Company.

Is that the kind of poncetastic answer you were after?

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 02/11/2011 10:00

Just looked at their ^ website, says they have provided flooring for Le Manoir Aux Quatre Saisons.Grin

Oh, and SAGA cruise ships.Blush

PaigeThumbScrewTurner · 02/11/2011 15:09

Got a rubber floor with knobs on in kitchen. It's grey and looks filthy a couple of hours after mopping

hth

WitchOfWoo · 02/11/2011 15:15

Fancy pants rubber flooring

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 02/11/2011 15:17

Rubber floors make me think of bathrooms and schools (sorry) but am sure will be nice in a small space.

SpringHeeledJack · 02/11/2011 17:11

thanks all

that's the fancy pants stuff I've been looking at, Witch. Yes, with nobbles

tho it now looks like I'll have to get flat stuff as we're not the cleanest family in south London but am worried will look hospitally

will check your tyres out, Eggy- it sounds great

and bibbity it rhymes with Babybel. A bit.

[well cryptic innit]

Ah, tis lovely there! If we had had two dds instead of dd then ds we would have moved there for the school. You have a near neighbour on this very forum you know, with a user name based on her/your manor. Seems a good egg.

I am having my kitchen done atm. Tis bamboozling to have to make so many decisions all the time isn't it?

SpringHeeledJack · 02/11/2011 18:21

ooh, of course! I can't quite remember her name- apart from the obv bit. I shall no doubt remember later and stalk her 'cross the boards

and speak not of kitchens, Bib. We have a tiny empty room in new place. And a mini cooker from Argos

still. Good practice for Old Age.

I bought my aubergine knobbly rubber flooring from the rubber flooring company for my holiday let bathroom. As my house keeper says you can swing a cow in this bathroom and we needed easy to lay bright coloured flooring that was no slip so this was the cheapest answer. I love it I got a fab aubergine blind, have pearlised mermaid board instead of tills, with magnolia walls and white suite all looks really stylish, but economical and easy to clean. The Visit Britain man gave my Bathroom 4 Stars.

SpringHeeledJack · 02/11/2011 19:01

yes, but how do you stop the nobbly bits from getting grubby?

maybe it's better for bathrooms than kitchens

hmmm

I have an aubergine sample, came in the post today. I am half in love with it already

WitchOfWoo · 02/11/2011 19:27

The fancy pants link 1st box, last option is smooth.

SpringHeeledJack · 02/11/2011 19:29

hmmm

I did see that, Woo, but am not convinced it won't make kitchen look like a horspital

specially if I got a blue one

gah

SpringHeeledJack · 02/11/2011 19:29

I loves the nobbles, I does

OP posts:
Iggly · 02/11/2011 19:33

We've got nobbly rubber flooring (dark grey). The nobbly bits dont get grimy around the edges - I find I get a better clean if I get on my hands and knees and use a cloth. Much better than using a mop.

I think ours is from the rubber flooring company.

And it is bloody slippery if there's water on it (eg 2 year old DS splashes everywhere).

101North · 02/11/2011 19:33

ooh Boiledegg can you imagine what goes on on Saga cruise ships that warrents easy clean rubber flooring?

What goes on on the Saga cruise ............stays on the saga cruise Grin

bigTillyMint · 02/11/2011 19:38

The nobbly bobbly stuff looks fab, but I bet it would be a bugger to clean!

I would love to get rubber flooring to replace the laminate (oh why did we listen to FIL?) but my eyes nearly popped out at the cost on behalf of DH who is a skinflint careful with the money.

Actually, I want a whole new kitchen. Well cupboards/doors and worktops at least. No chance of that unless the whole place goes up in flames.....

wonkylegs · 02/11/2011 19:44

Try Dalsoupe or Nora rubber flooring (I don't know if they sell directly to domestic customers but you should be able to get a supplier contact from their websites) huge ranges of colours and styles

bluegnueboo · 02/11/2011 19:44

I have the fancy pants with knobs in the kitchen and smooth in the bathroom.

Nightmare to keep both looking good to be honest but knobs def harder. I gave up on the polish that came with it and use klear from pledge to keep them shiny. As annoying as they are I love it and would def get again.
