small room, but lovely and sunny. Antique White ceiling and pic rails. Going for f and b clunch on the Walls.

Started out sanding original boards, but after discovering woodworm we had to replace them with new redwood floorboards. Consequently the floor is currently unvarnished but vvv pale. I have bought Colron Jacobean oak wood stain but not entirely convinced of the tone, suspect it doesn't quite have the warm depth I was after iyswim...
Any thoughts? I was hoping to do first coat tonight...

Do not do anything till you have tested the colour on an off cut of wood.
Jacobean oak is very dark IMO.

What effect are you trying to achieve? A lot of cheap oak woodstains are very yellowy.

Osmo Polyx Oil (various internet suppliers) is a good durable hardwax oil for floors and comes in tints as well as clear. You do need to try out though as nothing ever looks the same on the floor as on samples.

Sorry, I should have mentioned... Have done 2 tester offcuts which are currently in the room. I like the colour though it seems a bit muddy/dirty? I wanted a warm medium oak but not a dark welsh dresser. I love the antique pine look but fearful of orange on new boards!
Thank you..

when you varnish it, it will look a bit darker and warmer. Modern polyurathene varnishes don't go yellow as much as old ones. Redwood does not yellow as much as pine.

A matt or satin varnish will avoid the toffee-apple look.

The instructions tell you to apply Colron with a rag, but I use a wide, soft brush, lightly loaded, and work fast.
