Changing the colour of glass.

Can any of you lovely ladies help? I'm stuck! We have some old internal doors that are beautifully glazed with a delightful sixties yellow glass Confused is there anyway I can change the colour of the glass without actually replacing it, which would be very fiddly? Would, for example, spray on etching be any good? And advice would be very gratefully received! Thanks :)

If they are genuine 60s doors they will probably be worth money. Sell them and get something new and boring Grin

I like the doors :) just not the glass, it's the most nasty shade of yellow you can imagine....

why would be difficult to take the glass out? Aren't the panels held in with quarter-round glazing bead retained by brads or pins?

You could put in new glass, or ply panels and paint to match the rest of the door.

The only thing I can think of is this i.e. put some other coloured film on top of it. But you'd still have coloured glass, just a different colour. Eg if you put blue on top of your yellow you'd have green glass.

You could put etched film on top but it would still be yellow, just opaque yellow instead of clear.

(All this assumes the glass is smooth - won't work if it's wobbly).

You could probably paint the glass but it would look a bit odd I think, and scratch easily.

Why not remove the glass as Piglet says?

Whoever glazed them hasnt beaded round the glass both sides, it's fixed in on one side with wood filler used like putty that is now rock solid, there's about 15 panels and I don't think I can get the glass out without damaging the frame... The doors are also odd sizes so it will be difficult to find replacements Confused oh bum, looks like I'm going to have to go for the open plan look :o thanks for the help though :)

Hmmm... pva glue mixed with food colouring and then painted on? Will that cover the yellow though?
