Kitchen worktops - please summarise my options

Replacing laminate.

Granite and wood obviously.

Is quartz a type of granite? or something else entirely.

What do they mean by stone worktops? Marble?

Concrete?

What is composite? Is this what Corian is?

I am after a very light/white surface that can be cleaned/bleached ideally.

Confused by the options.

We have corian and love it. It doesn't stain. I got lily pollen off white corian with a gentle wipe with a Brillo pad.
The main reason we went for it over other options is that there is NO join anywhere. Very clever stuff.
It can be buffed up for a small fee to remove any tiny scratches.

Not sure but recycled is scratch proof and just plain glass does scratch a bit.

I suppose you have to get the supplier to cut it to size and shape, and cut out the hole for the sink? Or can it be done on-site with some special tool?

Agree with Cointreau - have granite and would be without it. Can stick down saucepans without a trivet, use as a chopping board, doesn't scratch and looks great.

That red-topped kitchen looks nice - like a mix of units like that

Don't use granite or glass to chop on - it absolutely ruins the edge of your knives - no idea how glass chopping boards ever caught on - you need to chop on soft surfaces like plastic or wood to protect the blade.

Or gorgeous Welsh Slate!

Spotted from a thread last week and now I need it in my new house kitchen extension Grin
