moving to bristol

Would be great to hear from anyone who moved to bristol from London, or from the locals - we are looking at Bristol suburbs (redland, cotham, clifton) - seen a few flats, but I'm still unable to gauge the vibe/atmosphere as the visits are during the day and very short..From various posts I can see that Bristol is bohemian, but on the other hand many say it's full of snobby people (rich students - and presumably parents). Is it all very segregated socially? From I caught a glimpse of myself, it's not as modern as london in attitudes, and I live in a nice area of london, but it's very international, and not many people are openly snobbish. How is the attitude to europeans? Is it easy to find places to socialise. I know it all sounds muddled, sorry! but I just want to see whether it's a good place to live socially. I love the architecture and the relaxed vibe of these areas, just no idea what people are like.

thanks for the warning, at least if we do buy I'll bear in mind not to stretch near the asking prices, but offer lower with your info in mind. Will think of renting too, but it means starting a whole new process, and i already quite liked a few flats for sale, so depends on what would they accept i suppose..
There's some fall in london prices apart from a few prime areas. Will lok into propertybee too - didn't know of it.
Yes WBN, Sneyd park and Henleaze get a lot votes! When your friend was buying, that was a real peak in property, so not surprising!

By the way, what are the interesting areas for shopping - not the obvious brands, but bakeries, tea shops, delis, antique shops? I used to shop for clothes a lot but gone off it after so much stuff piled up - I think it's a chore now when i actuallu need to find something new. Cabot though has good restaurants, as i ve heard.

myron, did you mean 15% drop in prices for the last year? I'm ve been only looking for a good 2 bed flat on a nice green-ish street (upper floors) - most MNers get excited about houses!

Gloucester Road is my favourite, also Whiteladies Road. Don't get excited about Cabot Circus.

I've seen a little but of Gloucester rd, near REdland station - it's quirky but I only saw a saisbury's, a pub and some cafes - where aer the actual shops, and what type are they?
