Glass splashback for cooker - colour matched to walls

Has anyone had a glass splashback fitted which has been colour-matched to kitchen walls? I quite like this idea as I'd like a change from ceramic tiles and a steel splashback will look too industrial for my over kitchen look. Thanks.

No, but I looked into it. I was put off by all the faff involved if you wanted to change your colour scheme. The kitchen people were raving about them though.

Yes. No faff, didn't get it through kitchen people just went to local glass merchant and gave them some of the colour to match. Only flaw is you need to use extractor more than i do, there are a couple of 'bubbles' behind mine now which i suspect are due to codensation, but even these are only visable close up.

If you had clear glass wouldn't it be the same effect?

Good point NNN. Also, geogteach, did you have a special coating put on it at all - some offer this, which make it smear-proof when wiping?

carp we just redid our kitchen last week and fitted glass splashbacks behind the sink and cooker. We picked some dulux paint and the company matched the glass to the colour - and it's a perfect match, obviously! I suggested clear glass but apparently that's not how it's done.

It's much easier than tiling and can be fitted much faster. And it looks splendid in the new kitchen (definitely adds a modern edge, so I wouldn't pick it for a traditional kitchen/house). Obviously I don't know how well it all lasts but we certainly wouldn't expect to redecorate the kitchen for ages so I'm not bothered about it not matching a later colour scheme - surely it's the same with tiles?

I'm not sure about the specific coating - I don't think so, but it was from a specialist company not a local glass merchant. The company were great and the delivery went well (took about three weeks from ordering, but this was slow due to some work they were having done on the factory). I can find out the name if you'd like?

How much are these glass splashbacks? I need to make splashback decision and am undecided about glass. Need a 100cm width. Am tempted back to tiles as keep reading they are now out of fashion.

Thanks ghost - have found a local company who can match to my Farrow & Ball paint. Which company did you use? I was going to have granite upstands to match worktops, -will glass splashback look daft above these - shall I just go for glass splashback without the granite upstand? Not sure - will have to peruse images in magazines :)

I think they'd look good with granite actually! We used lux glass and would recommend them. Our 800mm x 600 mm splashback behind the cooker was about £100 I think, but you can get a quote from the website.

I've had two glass splashbacks. Looked lovely, but both cracked, the second (replacement) one just this week. Am now considering a horrid stainless steel one.
