Pendant lights over kitchen tables

In a moment of ebay bargain madness I bought 3 of these Tom Dixon copper pendant lights www.conranshop.co.uk/296427/SHADE_COPPER/Product for my soon to be revamped kitchen. I am now wondering if one or at most two would be better over a 6ft table. I still love them but they are quite statement ish in the flesh....My todder thinks they are Christmas decorations.

Does anyone have a view on pendant lights over kitchen tables - do you wish you hadn't got them now, what height are they etc... Also in interiors magazines these sorts of lights are always in threes. Has anyone got just two?

Sorry for the ramble but must decide by Friday and nobody in RL cares either way!!

If it helps the room is 13ft by 18ft with very high ceilings.

Thanks

Oh, it's beautiful. I don't have pendants yet, but have got planning consent thru this morning on our new kitchen/diner, so will have soon. I would think over a 6ft table, one would be enough, and even if you have them evenly spaced across the 18ft, that's still going to be 3 fairly close together.

I used to have a single pendant over a 6 ft table and it didn't give enough light. With hindsight I wish we'd had three but OTOH, those ones you've bought seem quite big. I think aesthetically, two would look odd and you need three, if they're not too big?

oooh lovely, very jealous and well done to get them on Ebay - they are very fashionable at the mo.
I think 3 will look fine. This is probably a really stupid idea, but is there any way you could do a sort of mock-up over the table in question, to see how they'll look? You'd have to dangle them from something though and I don't know what.

i lovvvve these they are beautiful, agree with Smalltown definitely one or three two wouldnt look right. many restaurants have so many of these hanging they are great, google and look at images for inspiration
smart move on ebay!

Thanks everyone for the advice - much appreciated. One or three it is...

I think I may have to try and cajole the electrican to help me stage a mock up. Hopefully once the kitchen is in this weekend with a new table it will be easier to judge scale.

On the ebay thing it is amazing what house stuff the super rich sell off (in London at least). There are a couple of ebay shops/agencies that I have got some great furniture and fittings from where people who are gutting mansions sell stuff on. These lights were from a 7 floor house in Holland Park that was fascinating to nosy at!

I know this thread is really old but am hoping to find someone that has the Tom Dixon copper pendants. I really want to get some for my new kitchen dinner but am worried about cleaning them and how they look after a year or two? Do you find you constantly have to dust them to keep them looking lovely and shiny?! Anyone got any that can give me some advice I would really appreciate your help.

Pendant lights were discussed on genre a few months ago and I think it was pigletjohn who said you could get a light fitting that enabled you to effectively plug the pendant light into it, so you could, if you wanted to, have a long pendant or short ordinary light above the table

I don't have the Tom Dixon ones but do have 'fancy' danish lights that have mutiple metal sections to the shades.

The best way i have found to dust them is to actually use a soft acrylic paintbrush to brush the dust off. And i've tried all other methods - hoover, hand held vac etc.

I take the bulbs out then support the light fitting by holding the socket section that the bulb goes into, then brush the dust away.

I use baby wipes or a damp ecloth to wipe over. Mine aren,t reflective like the TD ones but do have a sheen.

TBH, it is a headache BUT i love the lights so it's worth it for me.

If you do go with them, cover them with plastic bags if you have any work done in the room to keep them dust free.

Thanks very much Deux. Great advice, especially for covering them if work is still happening.
