Key things to include in our new bathrooms?

We're just about to replace a mouldering carpeted hovel with two new bathrooms, and I'm paranoid that I'm going to forget something. This is going to involve knocking walls down, creating new walls, moving doors, taking up floor, etc etc, so it's big stuff.

So far on my list I have

  • efficient and quiet extractor fan
  • warm and easy to clean floor
  • shower tray that doesn't leak
  • glass shower door with anti-limescale coating
  • sink
  • bath
  • easy to clean taps with water-reducing features
  • large shower head with water-reducing features
  • hand-held shower head
  • enough storage for everything currently on shelves
  • general lighting
  • task lighting over mirror

Anything else I've missed? Thanks muchly!

A heated mirror - we had it put in our main bathroom and regret not having it in the en suite

Having a dual light/extractor over the shower is ace and makes it look much neater

And I love my corner off set bath - it gave us a long, wider bath which feels luxurious while taking up less space in the room

We had a pea-shaped bath with shower at one end installed - it is fab!

The shower & bath filler has a remote control Grin

We had heated flooring and recessed dim-able lighting - but controls have to go outside in hall (did not want pull cord in new bathroom).

We have a sink built into a work top, with built in cupboards underneath which works well in a smallish space (from Bathstore) Heated towel rail is great too! (Small pic on profile)

Consider a shower tray with upstands as an extra defence against leaks. Our leaky shower is the worst thing in our otherwise lovely bathroom.

Intrigued. Aren't peas round? I'd love a round bath

JennyPiccolo · 30/07/2011 19:16

i have a 'pea' shaped bath but i thought it was a 'P' shaped bath on account of it's shaped like a 'P'?

JennyPiccolo · 30/07/2011 19:17

anyway, i concur, they are dead good.

Thanks again, everyone! The bathroom is starting to take shape...

Love your photos, Milliways. If you're still looking for info on the plant in your photos of the front of the house, I'd guess it's Verbascum bombyciferum.

Grin - Lol re my mistake on P / pea baths!

and Thanks Grendelsmum- Mumsnet did answer my triffid question last year. Strangely it is not mutating this year, but is def still alive.

Have just done our re-bathroom and can highly recommend a walk in shower.
We have also had basin set into a cabinet - brilliant for hiding general bathroom clutter.
I've uploaded a couple of photos of the shower and cabinet on my profile - do have a look.
Would also recommend a heated mirror - stops it steaming up.

Didn't know you could get dual fuel towel rails - sounds a brilliant idea.

One thing to be careful of is lighting. Lights in bathroom have to be set quite high into the ceiling, so give of less light than you would normally expect from the same number of lights.
