I normally use dulux, thinking paint is paint. However ive seen so many threads about this paint that I feel I must be missing out somewhere. I'm due to decorate soon and wondering if I should give f+b a go. So can you all tell me what is so wonderful about it and why I should use it.

Thank you

Funny I am going to F&B today I shall send your regards. Grin

I know there is cheap paint under the F&B on one of the ceilings and even that makes me twitch . I can gaze and the lovely two coat pure stuff F&B ceiling in the living room which is changing with the light all over the shop. Wink

We used a lot of F&B modern emulsion in our Victorian house, except in the living room. The estate emulsion is not wipeable - we have electrician's finger marks on our living room wall and they won't come off. Modern emulsion is much better, especially if you have kids.

One reason why you shouldn't use Dulux is that I have just needed to apply 4 coats of paint to the ceiling - still not convinced it has covered properly whereas the Little Green Paint covered the walls beautifully in 2 coats....guess who's going to the shop tomorrow to buy Little Greene white for the ceiling in the other rooms.

I redecorated a room in F&B in my last flat before moving and have just painted a room in my new house with Crown Heritage.

I have to say that the Crown is better. Better coverage, much, much less splattery to use - I didn't bother with dust sheets in the end because it just didn't splatter off the roller like the F&B does (I have a roller with a splatter guard though).

Was pleasantly surprised :)

Marsha you went to F&B today, how come? I am envious....I think I may have a touch of the Princess and the Pea when it comes to F&B. Me and DH do stare at the walls in our kitchen of a night, which are String BTW

PigletJohn · 10/07/2011 22:25

Susan, I can't help thinking that you are beyond enthusiastic for your favourite fashionable brand of paint.

I just looked up Farrow and Ball on the "Which" website, and F&B (at nearly 3 times the price of the other paints) was not the worst on test. However it was the second worst.

Funny I have a decorator here right now doing all the rooms in F&B. Chappell Green hall, Shaded White (is really lovely). Pale Powder, Stony Ground (think I should have gone with Fawn ) Tallow, Pointing, Wimborne White, the eggshell is lovely.

A newy- Cabbage White in a bedroom. He knocked half a tin over - !! that's pure F&B gold right there Shock Wink and I have to buy more so he can finish.

Didn't make it on Sunday as had a party but probably today now.

FunnysInTheGarden · 11/07/2011 10:27

ooooh Lovely Marsha We have Pointing, Pale Powder, Matchstick, String, Powder Blue and Berrington Blue (oh and another grey/blue in the nursery, Palma Blue ?) All lovely. We also have Wheelbarrow and Clock Tower White in the garden and on the external walls/woodwork.

I don't care if it's poncey and philistines think its a waste of money. I like it Grin

Are you going to charge the decorator for the spilled gold?

MarshaBrady · 11/07/2011 15:18

Yes will take off cheque at the end, he suggested this.

Practically had to counsel him about stuff in his life this morning, spillage linked to that... which was a bit hmmm. But at least the paint is good Grin

MarshaBrady · 11/07/2011 15:20

Love your colours too btw. Berrington Blue sounds interesting, chart is under a pile somewhere.

EldritchCleavage · 11/07/2011 15:30

Someone who was very big in posh paint once told me F&B paint is nothing special. Every decorator I've ever asked says the same.

By all means buy it if they have a colour you like, but though the price may be premium the quality is fairly standard.

FunnysInTheGarden · 11/07/2011 22:22

nah, quality is good too. I do my own decorating and it really is second to none.

Dont ever never buy this paint it just dont worth it. Unless you want to lose your money

wishingchair · 09/01/2013 10:39

We used dulux in our kitchen (bleached lichen 2 and 4 ... on cupboards and walls) and it changes shade as the the light changes (or to Dorje's point ... reflects back a different part of the visible spectrum as the light changes) Grin

Love it.

FarrahFawcettsFlick · 12/01/2013 13:41

Painted half my mum's lounge in F&B Pointing, the other half in Dulux pointing copy. Not the same colour, similar, but not the same. F&B pointing so much nicer.

noddyholder · 12/01/2013 13:56

Not as good as craig and rose for coverage and durability. Kevin McCloud paint very good too. I like F and B but it is a bit emperors new clothes

Yfronts · 13/01/2013 21:21

little green is much better then F&B. Better coverage but still lovely

Lonecatwithkitten · 13/01/2013 23:22

Little Greene are really worth looking . F&B are recreating these heritage paints whereas LG were actually making paints in these eras so you are getting the real deal from them. Plus LG coverage is much much better than F&B.
