Decking - any way of creating anti- slip surface?

We're about to rent property which has decking in garden. On a recent visit to the house we discovered that the outgoing tenant slipped on decking and broke her arm.

We are mindful that especially with young children this could be a big hazard. Is there any way to create an anti-slip surface?

Chicken wire I think is usually the recommended thing. It might need washing to get any algae off - if it has greeny patches on it. I've had decking for a while and usually it's not slippy by nature.

You can get anti slip paint, but landlord might not be keen.

Hophop - would I need to get that professionally done? thinking that it would have to be done in such a way as to not cause a hazard in itself.

Fourarms - is there anything not to like about anti - slip paint?

I would be prepared to do it myself if landlord is reluctant but surely that must be his responsibility to make house safe, esp since what's happened with last tenant. Also would not want to do anytning which, altho he may have consented to, he might have an issue with later on.

We've got slippy decking that DH needs to walk over to get to his office. It needs a good wash at the moment, it wouldn't be slippy if it was. Till we get round to that we've got some rubber mats from Dunelm, can't see them there at the moment on their website so can't link. We've tied them together with cable ties and it works very well. They are like this but were a lot cheaper.

I haven't done the chicken wire, just read about it. you can get a decking wash from diy stores for cleaning it, might juft get rid of any slime.
