New carpets- how important is that fleck?

Dh and i are doing up our sitting room at the moment on a tight budget. We have found someone who can supply and fit a carpet nice and cheaply. there are two we like, one is £250 cheaper than the other but is a plain colour, as in no fleck. They are both an oatmealy sort of colour (Which we like!) but not sure whether we should pay the extra so that bits wont show up as much on the carpet. We are replacing a blue/ green (quite dark) carpet which is plain but on which bits dont show up tooooo much but we want to lighten the room. Will we regret going for the cheaper one? Anyone any advice or experience to share?

Ooh, do get the flecky one. We did when we changed our (plain) living room carpet (also to an oatmeally sort of colour) and it is BRILLIANT, seriously, I'd recommend it, especially if you're messy like us Smile or just don't want to be irritated into getting the hoover out every five minutes

Yes get the fleck. Its worth it for the ability to hide all sorts of unnamed horrors! (at least it does in this house!)

Definitely go for fleck unless you are a very keen hooverer

I don't like seeing fleck in carpets. I have plain oatmeal type colours everywhere that is carpeted.

any other views?

Another vote for the fleck. We have oatmeal-with fleck thoughout and it's great.

Although admittedly, you do look at the carpet and think it is clean and then walk across it and realise you're crunching across on biscuit crumbs ...

HUGE dilemma! this could mean the difference between new curtains or not ! anyone think it is worth having peach velvet curtains still ?????

Well if that is what it comes down to, have the plain one!

Aworryingtrend · 26/05/2011 11:48

£250 difference between them is a heck of a lot- surely you can find a flecky style one cheaper elsewhere?

We have flecked oatmeal type on the stairs, landing and 2 bedrooms upstairs and it always looks clean even when I havent hoovered for ages however the plain one in the lounge which we inherited is a nightmare, it only ever looks nice about 30 seconds after hoovering.

Once you go fleck, you never go back!
