Furnished rental but we've moved things around?

We are renting a 'furnished' property - we did ask if we could rent it unfurnished (load of tat that had been dumped in cottage not our taste and we had all our own furniture in storage after renting out our own home in another part of country) the landlord refused but did remove the beds.

So as the house was in our ideal location and nothing else available we took it. We have our first inspection tomorrow - the thing is we have moved alot of the owners tat furniture carefully into one of the bedrooms, and moved a couple of extra pieces of our own furniture in.

I'm now panicking about the forthcoming check, having never rented before not sure if this was ok. Obviously it would all be put back in the exact spot (they gave us photos!) when we leave.

I should say most of our furniture still in storage - things we moved out the way are coffee tables, rugs, one sofa and lamps etc. Still using landlords white goods, two other sofas, dining table etc.

That would be completely and utterly fine OP, you had an inventory upon check in I assume? All you need to do is move it back to each room when you leave.

As a rule when I move in anywhere rented all curtains, shower curtains and lampshades go into storage so I don?t have to worry about them being marked or worn when I leave, plus they are never to my taste. IMO it?s better for the LL, he/she has a few years/months of his/her stuff not getting any wear and tear.

Can see why you'd be wonder though....photos of the items??!! Seems a bit OTT but I guess that would be to stop someone flogging the stuff on eBay and buying cheaper replacements just to fit the inventory.

Phew.. bit of relief was starting to panic. We thought the same that at least the items wouldn't be getting any more wear and children less likely to damage anything. The property was once a holiday cottage and I think over time things haven't been replaced, so ended up with a lot of useless furniture and not much useful like wardrobes!

Haven't changed curtains yet - but intend to do so shortly. Grin

As for photos, we were given a disc from letting agent with 150+ photos itemising each piece of furniture, where it was placed and any marks,damage... even coasters on a coffee table! Hmm

OMG! Just as well the items are out of the reach of the DC's! Good luck with the inspection, I'm sure it will be fine!
