can you paint a north-facing bedroom blue?

We live in a 1959 house, and my daughter's bedroom faces North, I have just realised... the bedroom window is about 180 cm wide, so very light room (that's my excuse).

When we moved in 5 years ago, we painted everything cream, and this room was her brother's. She has now moved in, and to my relief surprise has said she does not want pink walls, her new favourite colour is light blue.

After surfing this section, most advice seems to be: don't paint a north facing room blue. What do I do? Do I convince her that she actually does like pink after all, or can anyone tell me about a shade of blue in a north-facing room that works for them?

Thanks in advance!

oh it'll be fine! ds1's room is north facing and it's half blue, half white.

i think the reasoning behind it is that it can look "cold"... i never really got that. it'll look blue Hmm

if she really loves blue, and you're happy for her to have blue then just go for it!

If you look at blues you will soon see that some are a lot cooler than others. Just choose carefully and keep the blue to the Walls only, choosing another warm neutral for flooring and curtains. My MIL had a room she never liked, it was a dreary blue/grey with carpet and curtains to match. When I pointed out that the room was north facing, she repainted and now uses the room a lot more!

Hi, ive just done our north facing bedroom in white with the chimney breast in a soft cornflower blue and it doesnt look cold at all, ive added lots of luxurious bedding though to make it softer and a nice cream wool carpet. add a little beige/sand into the bedding maybe the valance sheet so it all looks cosy. I went for a beach colour theme so its not too cold and it looks fab now!

Thnx for tips (esp yours Hully :) ) Have made some bad paint decisions in the past (dark blue bathroom springs to mind), so useful to have some feedback before I spend a fortune on tester pots.

Go for a nice warm blue...yes they do exist! Or a lilac type of blue perhaps?

we have a lilac-y kind of blue in our box room, looks lovely and warm. it is not north facing though (think it is east)
