Bedrooms on different floors

I've just seen a fab house that meets all our needs... bar one!

It has the 3 big bedrooms we want but unfortunately not all the bedrooms are on the same floor. There are 2 on the 1st floor and 1 on the 2nd floor.

Does anyone else have young DC sleeping in bedrooms on a different floor to them? And does it work?!

We have the loft room and our children are on the floor below us. Its great! And we can always hear them stil if they puke up or call out. YOur children wont be young forever

We had this for many years. It was fine, though felt a bit odd to start. Stair gates were useful when they were tiny, just to prevent night time disasters.

They were above us, and as they got older, we loved hearing their feet as they jumped out of bed in the morning. I miss that now that we are all on one floor.

It's actually really common round where we used to live, where loads of houses have loft conversions, and it was an area really popular with young families, so lots of people in the same boat.

If you love the house, go for it!

My mother in law was horrified that we decided to do this because "if there's a burglar, you want to be between the children and the front door" Hmm I've never really been able to fathom her rationale for this... The most likely point of entry would be via the upstairs bedrooms (where we are) but she insisted that the DC should be up there.

TBH I love being on a different floor - all the mess is contained in one place, the noise doesn't travel, I don't have to mortally wound my feet on bloody bits of lego whilst trying to go for a midnight pee. It's most civilised. Go for it!

We are in a 3 storey house with DCs on the top floor with their own bathroom. DCs arent small and I would say that the big problem is that we dont go onto the top floor often enough to check the state of bedrooms and the bathroom (they are supposed to clean it themselves).

Our DD is on the floor below...our house is an odd layout as it's a conversion so it's not a complete floor, about 4 stairs in one direction and then 8 in another but it works absolutely fine. I wouldn't worry about it at all. She likes it too as their is a bathroom on her floor which she calls "her" bathroom!!

We are buying off plan and move in June - we have the whole of the top floor Grin and DS 3.5 and DD 1 will be on the middle floor. We are renting at the moment and DS is on the top floor on his own and it's fine - just put in stair gates where necessary.

I can't wait to have our own 'apartment' on the top floor and am very tempted to put a lock on the door from their landing!!!
