Floor tiling under kitchen units?

We are about to have kitchen installed in our new extension & builder wants to put floor tiles in after the units have been installed. I was bit surprised as it seems better to me to tile the whole floor then put units in. Doesn't limit you in future if you want to change the kitchen without changing the floor.

Any opinions? Am I just being precious?

When we did our kitchen the floor was tiled to just under the cupboards, but not all the way to skirting board, then front plynth was put back in place.

Just had our kitchen done, and the builder tiled right up to the walls, then fitted the units. Same thoughts as you. We also had the spare tiles used to make skirting, and it looks lovely and so easy to keep clean (compared to the wooden floor which was there previously). As you are doing a new build, apart from the cost of a few extra tiles it will be no hassle to tile the whole floor, whereas if you had units in situ ie in existing kitchen, I can see why they might only want to tile after units were in.

Thanks guys. We had already bought the tiles assuming whole floor will be tiled.

In our last house we only found out that the previous owners hadn't tiled the whole floor when we replaced the kitchen, and the new units were slightly shallower cos the old ones had been fitted wonkily. The floor was gorgeous terracotta tiles and we couldn't get any new ones to match 100% which was a pain.
But I get the impression the builder thinks I am a nuisance!
