So I love the Fired Earth freestanding kitchen - does anywhere else sell one that won't cost me my firstborn?

Their Bastide kitchen is lovely, but the only prices I've seen for it so far say that the sink unit alone is £3000-4000.

So can anyone recommend a cheaper one?

I looked at the Ikea freestanding one but I'd prefer something a bit country-looking.

Thanks in advance!

I have just got a solid wood kitchen from pineland in pine [obviously] but they do make them in other woods.Mine came in ready-built units that you attach together in situ. The design is very like the Fired Earth one [in-frame] and thay will make units to different sizes. The way they are built though is different -the legs are built to be behind the plinth. The cost is way\way cheaper -but you don't get the little touches liked carved legs etc.A good joiner can customise it for you though.

Ooh, thanks teta, I'll have a look at those!

Oh, can their kitchens be painted?

Yes,ours was ordered sanded ready to paint. They provide a stain for the interior that you can use, then oil, or varnish, or paint if you wish.

I had a carpenter make a free standing cupboard using the fe catalogue as inspiration

Flingon we have Ikea stat white units in the utility with an oak worktop and a single butlers sink [with ceramic handles] and it does actually look surprisingly 'country'.It is our temporary kitchen at the mo.Blush.I have a lot of blue and white cornishware and it looks lovely.

FlingonTheValiant · 13/05/2011 22:31

newgirl - that's a good idea, but I'm guessing that's still quite expensive :(

teta - ah that's interesting about the stat units, I was only really looking at the freestanding ones. I'll have a look at them. Is the worktop from ikea too?

Lucky you to have two nice kitchens! Envy

Tempting to go with ikea for the prices, but I like the idea of something a bit more original and F&B painted...

Don't have 2 nice kitchens - have temporary 'camping' kitchen with concrete floor [no paint on walls but greasy oil marks] and table laden with cutlery ,jams etc. and microwave plus a working hob, but no cooker. Also have had several visitors with tiler doing the kitchen floor - so have had to walk outside in the rain to deliver cooked food to said visitors [plus 4 dc's].Really has been fun [understatement of the year!].

Yes, but you will have two nice kitchens :o Sounds like hell though!

I think Cooke and Lewis might do similar. I love the fe bathroom sink unit, but saw a c&l version at b&q. Looked nice and was matched to fe paint on the tub they had in the display.

Will keep an eye on this thread... love the bastide kitchen ;-)

Super, I'll have a look at Cooke and Lewis, thanks!

At first glance the Carisbrooke (in blue, green and cream) and the Woburn kitchens look at bit like the Bastide one. Although not freestanding.

Thanks RunsWithScissors!
