Updating a kitchen to sell - help please!

Hi there,

We're currently in the early stages of organising ourselves to sell our flat. I know our main job is to have a (major) declutter and we're going to get professionals in to give it a good clean.

We haven't got an awful lot of money to hand to improve it, so the main problem is the kitchen. It's perfectly functional, but looks very tatty and dated. The cupboards are a horrible flecked cream and the worktop is a kind of wood effect plasticky affair. It is also carpeted (why the previous owner thought this was a good idea, I don't know). We're obviously going to change the floor, but can't afford to put in a whole new kitchen.

It's relatively large, for a small flat, about 13 by 11 foot, and we have a table in there, but because of the layout of the windows, door, radiator etc, it's near on impossible to bring it into the middle of the room.

What are some relatively cheap ways to make it look as nice as possible?

Thanks in advance!

You can replace just the cupboard doors, if £ allows, not the cabinets. Failing that, put on shiny new handles - B&Q/ Homebase/anyone has great ones, or eg Bombay Duck for more pricey funky ones.

TAble at side may even make it look more spacey. Make sure number of chairs round table doesn't accentuate fact it won't fit in middle of room - don't crowd it.

Get bright flowering pot plant eg on table - not cut flowers, need new ones every viewing too pricey.

Loose everything from surfaces bar shiny sparkly toaster/coffee maker to hide worst stains/scuffs. No tea towells etc visible. Shiny sink - hide washing up bowl if sink OK.

Good luck!

This is really helpful, thank you. Any other ideas gladly welcomed. Thanks again.
