Just as the title suggests really. Doing my bi-annual I want to move wobble and wondered where people commute from and what makes it worth it?
Thanks

we're in east herts, and love it so far. nice small town, good community feel without being too villagey, easy to get to london or cambridge, and apparently great local schools (DS only 19 months, so not an issue just yet!)

Wimbledon!
Gorgeous and green, mainline to Waterloo so home from work in under an hour. But property £££

Lawyer friends of mine commute from Brighton, they claim its worth it for the quality of life in Brighton and they always get a seat going into work because the train starts there.

Raynes park, green, quiet, under an hour to anywhere in the city, has star bucks and waitrose, 5 mins from Wimbledon but house prices ££ not ££££££ Grin

SW London
commute isn't great but we have looked at houses in Essex and it wasn't for us

Yes - we've looked at Essex and it wasn't really for us, and Hertfordshire and it was a bit too grown up and posh for us.

I just had a dream last night and we found a place that was 20 minutes train from Liverpool Street. It was lovely and relaxed. I wanted to find it in real life!

Or course I know this place doesn't actually exist.

When DH and I were both working in/near the City in the 90s, we lived in Blackheath and absolutely loved it - quick train journey into London Bridge or Cannon St, house prices a lot lower than equally nice bits of north London or Clapham etc (don't know if that is still true) and all the green space of Blackheath/Greenwich Park to wander through at the weekend. Plus lots of nice restaurants, craft markets, Greenwich Theatre etc. I still have some friends and family living round there and it still seems just as nice. Getting places at good schools is a bit of an issue, but I think that is true of pretty much all the nice bits of London?

KvetaBarry · 08/05/2011 12:34

we're actually in Stortford, which is 40 minutes to Liv Street - it's not too Herts, and def has some Essex elements. But I work in Cambs, and DH in the City, so it's perfect for us. and we just bought a nice sized house, which we would not have been able to afford in London!

Richmond. DH drives though as he starts so early/finishes so late and it takes him 30/40 minutes.

When dh was in the city, we lived in East Grinstead

MadameCastafiore · 08/05/2011 17:59

Depends what sort of house you want and how much cash you have.

We live in a tiny village in Essex - is fab for commuting, schools and a part time job for me. Surrounded by cornfields and great places to visit but is not cheap to live around here and if you want land you need to go for an old house.

Epsom; great commute to south london, good schools (DH actually works in Canary Wharf)
