A question about undermounted sinks for plumbers/kitchen fitters...

I am replacing our kitchen sink - I don't want to have a sink with a drainer but don't want an undermounted one either. However, I like the look of many of the undermounted sinks even if I don't want to fix them under the worktop sooooo I was wondering if there was anything to stop me buying one and fitting it on top of the worktop iyswim - using the rim around it to keep it in place and, if the rim is big enough, drilling through to position the tap.

Is this a very bad idea?

I love my undermount sink as I can just wipe things straight into it. But, if you don't like the look, I think what you want is an "overmount" sink, no? In my in-exhaustive experience, some sinks have a lip so they can be used as undermounts or mounted on a counter, and some have no lips so jsut make sure yours could be used in the later fashion.

I like them as well and have one but have decided they don't work with a wooden worktop (unless you are prepared to be a lot more careful than I am Grin).

So, basically, if the rim has a lip around it, then it can be used overmounted? I love the Franke sink you linked to.

I think that's the deal. I've always found the people at Potter Perrin (based in SW16) very helpful and they carry Franke sinks so maybe worth giving them a call.
