Any experiences of soundproofing a party wall?

We live in a 30s semi which seems to have reasonably thick walls (better than any modern house we've lived in anyway).

However our neighbours are sharers who love playing trance music at loud volume! Apart from a couple of really noisy parties, the noise is not usually too loud and not too late but because we've got young children we're up early and in bed early so it bothers us at times when it's not necessarily unreasonable iyswim. I'm also concerned that our early starts will disturb them and often find myself sushing the children, which I'd rather not do.

We're thinking about soundproofing the party walls and wondered if anyone had any experience of doing this? The rooms are not massive so we're probably looking at acoustic panels.

Has anyone done anything similar? Or considered it and decided against?

Hiya

Weve recenty had to soundproof 1 of our walls as we have a new neighbour ho likes to scream at the top of his lungs for any kid he feels should be doing something from him a la von trap style!

we were told to use the thermal boards though and simply grip filled them to the brick (as we were plastering it didnt make much difference), they have definately improved the sounds of captain von trap next door, and also good for my heating bills too! i've seen the accoustic boards and depending on the price you found them for definatly think they would be ideal for you in your situation, theres nothing worse than being kept awake by your neighbours cos your own different time schedules!

We also had a neighbour who yelled to their kids from their bedroom (which of course shared our bedroom wall). Was our first bit if DIY in that house ;)

We built a stud frame and used acoustic insulation (was a fibre one like regular insulation), and did about three layers of it jammed in between the uprights. We then did two layers of plasterboard (first layer hung vertically, second one horizontally), then taped and filled. Took us a day to do. Well worth it!!!

Thanks so much for your replies. There seem to be lots of options and we'll have a look into it.

We can't really afford to lose any width in our bedroom so might need to have a look into the most efficient way of soundproofing that party wall.
