Would you like to help me find a house in Guildford?

Sorry as I have also posted under education, but we're under a lot of pressure to move or we'll lose our buyers who are getting impatient (quite understandably).

We would like to move to Guilford by the summer. DS1 is in year 2, DS2 is in nursery (so Year 3 and Reception for September).

Which are the best areas to look so that:

they both have a chance to walk to a decent primary state school

house is period in a nice road (3 bed with room for extension or 4 bed)
walkable into Guilford town
budget is £700K
will consider renting

Any advice would be very much appreciated! Thank you all.

I have posted on your other thread, and thought that Onslow Village,in Guildford, may suit you Smile

a bit below budget but in Onslow Village - about 10/15 min walk to train station, 20/25 min walk into town.

Definitely considering Onslow Village Lovedmyheyday, thanks for that.

Wow OfflineFor30Seconds, looks almost too good to be true? Grin What's the catchment for primaries like?

Garnish,Onslow is great for kids. Mine had all their schooling around there, and you've even got the Uni,for later! Onlow First School, then Queen Eleanors CofE,and Guildford County. All good. You'll find property is quite reasonable, after London.

I'm afraid I don't know much about current schooling, but my parents have had a house round there for 35+ years now and would never want to move.

Onslow Village has a nice community feel and if you even vaguely church-ish there's a thriving CofE church which is great for children. (My DDs go when I visit my parents, and love it).

The Merrow/ Burpham area is lovely and has great schools and reasonably close to the town centre depending on where you look. We live off the Epsom Road about 15 min walk into town and love the area. Might be an idea to rent initially to get a feel for the area?

We went to Onslow Village yesterday but struggled to fnd period houses that we could potentially afford (£700K). We have looked at lost of houses in the Merrow/ Burpham area but they were all 60's and 70's and they're not for us. Renting might have to be the way foward...

By the way, Shock at the hilly streets in Onslow Village!!!

Do you have any thoughts on Wokingham and Weybridge...?? Hmmm, maybe I'll have to post a new thread...

You could try a little further into town - there are some beautiful period houses further along the Epsom road and along the roads above the Castle and around Stoke park.

Merrow/Burpham does have some period houses hidden away!
