my kitchen desperately needs doing. we inherited it when we moved in and have done nothing with it.
i have nearly £2k in my ISA, is that enough to do a cheap kitchen?
we're thinking of moving in the next year or so, so i don't want to spend a lot making it lovely... it just needs to be useable! really, right now it's vile and ANYTHING will be an improvement

so the really cheapo ones from Homebase... will they do?
what things do I need to think about? how much is installation (roughly)?

If the kitchen's quite small, you could try getting good 2nd hand units from ebay - obviously the larger the kitchen, the harder it will be to get enough matching ones to fit. Ikea do nice solid wood worktops very cheaply. Do you need appliances as well? I think you will struggle with #2k if you do, sorry unless you can do all the installation yourself.

2k will get you a reasonable size and quality of kitchen provided you can get it fitted cheaply, this would not include plumbing or electrical work and you must get qualified people to carry out any electrical work needed.

hmm hadn't thought of ebay... that might work
the kitchen isn't huge, about 10ft square i guess. we have appliances, although i would prefer a built-in oven, but it wouoldn't be the end of the world if we kept the one we have at the moment.

my dad could technically fit it, but in reality it would take an awfully long time and i can't really be without a kitchen for that long

maybe i need to save a bit longer

Could you get away with changing the cupboards doors, worktops and painting over tiles?

Wickes do take away kitchens. I have used some of the units in my utility and they are fine.
