Limestone floor - does anyone have experience?

We've recently had a limestone floor put down in our kitchen, and it shows every mark and I can't seem to get the shadow of the mark out - is this normal?

I've been back to the supplier and he has said seal it again, and given me a neutral cleaner, but I can't get the marks out, so if I seal it won't I just be sealing the marks in? Is their a better way to clean it so that I can try sealing it again? I've got on my hands and knees and 'scrubbed' it gently with a jay cloth using the special neutral stone cleaner, haven't dared use anything abrasive.

Please help!

It sounds like it wasn't sealed properly to begin with. You can try a sealant stripper .There are various hg [hagesan] deep cleaners that will clean and strip. But get advice first on the right one for limestone. If this doesn't work the only option is to get a professional in to grind the surface of the stone and reseal.I am really hoping this doesn't happen to me as i have just installed acres of travertine tile.Though mine have been sealed twice-once before grouting and after grouting.Used Lithofin Stainstop which is meant to be really good penetrating sealer. The test to see if tiles are sealed properly is to sprinkle water droplets and then see if they are absorbed. If they aren't then your tile is sealed good and proper.

Oh thanks Teta, I think the sealing is a problem. My fitter did the same as you two coats before and after grouting with Lithofin Stainstop, but its obviously not enough. The floor doesn't look too bad in the day but at night looks grubby, I might try a stronger cleaner first rather than a stripper and cleaner.
Good luck with yours x

Daisie 4 do you think the floor might have been a bit dirty before the sealer went on?.I am a bit worried now...i have 4 dc's and have travertine in the kitchen, hall, utility and dining extension.I really do hope i don't have this problem.I think i will stick a couple more layers of the sealant on Grin

Hi Teta, no floor was definitely clean before sealed, it looked lovely and we didn't walk on it for a day or so afterwards. I think it just needed another coat. I'm going to go back to stone supplier and see what they recommend - I'll let you know. Was yours clean before it was sealed?
I'm sure the seal just wasn't enough, but its not ruined - it just needs throrough cleaning before being sealed again.
We had travertine in a flat we rented, it was newly refurbished and we found the travertine really easy to look after for the 18mths we were there - what is the problem with yours?
