Glossy worktops: lasting shine, or scratch-covered regrets?

We're at the later stages of kitchen-planning. We've settled on our Howdens units, our Polyflor floor - and need only to finalise the worktops.

It's pretty clear that we're going for laminate: too lazy to give real wood the tlc that it needs; too not well off for granite. So, we're buzzing around wood-effect laminates, and in particular around a lovely shiny zebrano gloss worktop.

What's holding us back is how durable it is. Have you got a glossy worktop, and, if so, how well has it worn? I've read mixed reports, with some saying not to touch it with a bargepole because it shows every scuff every time you move a bowl, and others saying that it's fine.

What has your experience of it been? Thanks! Lemonsole

depends what kind of person you are...we have matt textured laminate, as i have a tendancy to put hot pots straight off the cooker & onto the worktop Shock, also I don't always use a chopping board...so its better for me to not go for shiny. If you are after a granite/show kitchen look, go for gloss

Ah, thanks Bounty. We had suspected that it may have been the case... I think that I would love to be a glossy kind of gal - but should probably settle with a lump of MDF
