Study/home office furniture that isn't IKEA

Other than getting a carpenter in, I just can't find any study furniture that I like. I am going to share a large study with DH, and lots needs to be storage (we have 2 desks already) some in filing cabinets, others in cupboards and some on bookcases. IKEA seem to have the only sort of flexible system but I know from experience that it really doesn't last that well (billy bookcases did not survive 3rd house and 10 years) and it doesn't look that great. The study can be seen as you walkup the drive so I people will see it.

Surrounded by boxes and IKEA seems an easy solution but the proper office stuff isn't that cheap.
Any other ideas?

This is going to sound strange but we used kitchen units in the study in our last house (with a solid wood worktop as a desk). We didn't put any of the cupboard on plinths so it was the right height and we had a mixture of drawers and full height cupboards for storage and wall cupboards without doors for open shelving. We had a filing cabinet in one of the cupboards.

It looked fantastic and no one guessed that it should have been a kitchen thanks to carefully chosen doors and handles. When we were selling the house everyone who viewed commented on how good it looked.

Both Habitat and John Lewis have nice office furniture usually (desks, pedestals etc)

Looked at Habitat and John Lewis and its more that we need large storage cupboards. I will need to think again, not sure why the idea of IKEA brings me out in a cold sweat but its only final house so I want to get it right.

What about the large armoire type cupboards that WHite Company and M&S and Laura Ashley do?
You can get them cheaper than those companies on ebay, or seconds shops perhaps?

Shelfstore do a flexible system. I've been to their showroom in Finchley and it all looks good quality. I plan to use them one day, but have never got organised enough to plan a layout.
