Does an old cooker have any scrap value?

I'm being charged £65 to take away an old cooker...but a friend has said far too much as the people who take it will get quite a lot for scrap value.

Does it work at all or completely broken? Not that it matters, either way someone might take it if you put it on freecycle.

Is that your council? In which case I'm shocked - they usually take bulky stuff for free or max £25.

They should be paying you to take it away.A scrap man nicked my old cooker-if I'd seen him I'd have asked for something for it.Scrap is very valuable ATM.

Cameron, the cooker was worth something to us.My dad deals direct with a metal recycler who sends a 40ft trailer every now and then, which my dad fills. So there is no way I'd leave it for someone to take for free when we could get good money for it.
