LED lighting in home

Anyone have any experience of having LED lights in their home?

We are currently having the bathroom completely re-done and are thinking of installing LEDs.
One of the DS said that they had some at school and were VERY bright.
Now, I do like a good strong light, but do they tend to be over the top for a house?

Would be good to hear from anyone who has them.

Oh, that's interesting. itsnotfunny

I wonder if you can get different Watts like standard lights, or does it just depend on the number of lights you have?

I am having LED spots fitted next wednesday.I have been told the light is warm -toned and bright so am connecting to a dimmer switch. The bulbs apparently last for 5-6 years and come on immediately unlike low-voltage spots. They are more expensive - 15 - 20 pounds each than normal spots.I will give you feed back next week if you like.

You get different colours of LED lightbulbs - they come in 'cool' and 'warm'.

They also come in different strengths.

We have warm white leds in the kitchen and colour changing (RGB) leds in glass fronted cupboards and they are ace.

where are you? Do you have a specialist lighting trade counter near to you? Our electrician was really anti leds and sent us long to his lighting place. They had a special demo dark room set up where they could show different lighting effects. The electrician ended up being really impressed with our lights.... not at all the cold bright bluish light that used to be associated with leds

I have been using the 3.5 watt and 5 watt led lamps for a couple of years now, they have been very reliable and the light they give is excellent. I use the low voltage (12 volt) mr 11 amd mr 16 which give a nice white light with no start up time unlike the energy saving and useless fluoresant types.

Sorry not to reply to you all earlier - been out looking at other bathroom products today.

From reading around the subject elsewhere, it looks as though buying bulbs from certain manufacturers makes a big difference to the quality of the light.

Fred, we are in Gloucestershire - is that anywhere near you?
