My lovely new staircase arrived yesterday, unfortunately minus one Oak tread.
My builders tried to find out what had happened to it in my absence, and got nowhere with the manufacturer. I became aware later in the day, discussed it with my builder, who said he had a piece to match and his carpenter would prepare the missing tread rather than wait possibly 2 weeks for the manufacturer to send a replacement. I don't the luxury of waiting that time. I asked him on the phone if it was a good match, he said yes, very good.
Just been to the house - the new tread (now made and fitted) is a slightly red colour and noticeably different in colour from the other treads.
He says it will fade with time and anyway, we will almost certainly be oiling/lacquering the treads in any event.
Should I worry and tell him to stop now as I want a better match? If we oil/lacquer will the redness go?
I don't live at the property, hence being unable to see the piece in question this morning before they fitted it.
I don't want to be arsey for the sake of it (have fantastic relationship with builder and we are so close now to finishing, and his judgment so far has been spot on) but equally, I do NOT want a multicoloured staircase!
I have absolutely no experience with using oak and what happens to it once it is sealed etc, so any guidance would be very useful.
