Kitchen doors/worktop makeover???

Does anyone have any advice/recommendations for a company that does kitchen makeovers in the north west? I want to tart up my kitchen but don't want the expense of a whole new one. We need to replace the cupboard doors and drawer fronts, the pelmets/skirting, the sink and the workflow but the oven and hob are ok, the cupboard carcasses are fine and the tiles are too (floor and Walls).

Any idea what the relative cost of this might be?? Half the cost of a new kitchen? A quarter?? 75%???? has anyone done it and found it much cheaper?

Thanks!

The doors, drawer fronts pelmets/skirting are an easy diy job provided the door hinges are suitable for the new doors and the spacing is the same (important take an old door with you before buying). The most expensive part as far a labour goes would be the removal and refitting of the sink and hob as the new worktop would need to be cut to suit plus the plumbing and gas/electrical connection to the hob. If the hob is gas you will need to have it fitted by a gas safe registered engineer which is extra expense. I would estimate the overall cost would be 35-45% the cost of a complete new kitchen including labour and the job could be done very quickly. This job would suit a handyman bar any gas connections so the costs could be quite low.

Thanks for that, FIL is very handy (used to work as a joiner alongside being a fireman) so we could pay him to do it I suppose, and get someone in to do the hob as it is gas (annoyingly). He fitted the kitchen in his own house and that included cutting the worktop. So we just need to find doors that fit!

We did it in our first house and I would say you can do it very cheaply - I would say £500 or so (without labour) depending on how big your kitchen is. I think thats a really small fraction of what a new kitchen would be. It also depends on whether your units and drawers are standard sizes - most DIY chains / IKEA etc sell just the doors and if you're anywhere near Altrincham, there is a timber shop (Atlantic Timber) which sells worktops that as far as I remember is cheaper & better quality than the DIY stores. They will also cut it to size and do the special worktop join (so you don't have to have one of those silver things covering the join) if you provide the exact measurements.

Oh I will check that out - Alt is about an hour away from us.

I think the kitchen in our house is an MFI one, so I will have to see whether doors from somewhere like Ikea or B&Q will fit...

The kitchen isn't that big so should hopefully be able to do it for a decent price, hurrah!
