current combi boiler 18 years old and never ever broken down New condensing one will only save £120 per anuum on gas bill (British Gas estimate)and cost for new one will be about £2700. Have calculated that if I I change energy supplier at same time I might just recoup costs provided boiler lasts a min of 10 years(at a push)

We had a similar quandry, but decided not to change until we absolutely have to.

Having done lots of research on boilers, it seems they are not built to last and from what I have read you would be very lucky to get over 10 years out of one. The other thing is now you can only buy a condensing boiler, which will have an outlet pipe where the condensate runs out. A lot of people have trouble with the condensate pipe freezing in winter, and thereby the boiler stops working until it is unfrozen. Of course if your condensate pipe connects into drainage inside the building then you shouldn't get freezing, but if it runs outside it is possible it could freeze.

So my advice, if it aint broke don't fix it.

THANK you Captainpig I checked and to make £100 or so saving I just need to change supplier for my gas So much for the energy saving !! Of course it means cant leave BGservice contract as I think others do not like boiler over15 years BG website says some spare parts not avail but they have been pestering me about this for a few years Worse still on Sebuk site it only gives new boiler 73% efficieny which is only 8% more than the old one
Only prob I have is that bathroom radiator is a bit corroded Yes, and The quotes all come without VAt so company quoted me in first instance £2360 (on vat reg company paper) then went up for rads but was all without vat so all sudenly jumped £1000!! But according to plumbers on good sites £3000
for new boiler ok as costs taken up with adhering to all the new regs...
