Mosaic flooring and a Woodburner - are they compatible?

We are about to tile the hearth, which has been boarded and plastered ready to fit a woodburner at some point. We are not doing the woodburner just yet, but want to finish the floor.

We really like the idea of having a mosaic floor. Can we put a woodburner on top of this or is it not robust enough? Would we be able to do it if we put a seperate stone on top of the middle/back of the mosaic to put the woodburner on (we would design the style of mosaic pattern accordingly) should he fit the stone into the centre of the mosaic as part of the design, or should we scrap the mosaic and put slate down as originally planned.

Depends on what colour grout you are planning on. If the grout is white I wouldn't put a woodburner anywhere near it. It will get ash and soot on it no matter how careful you are, so you need to be able to clean it.

I have a honed limestone floor with white grout and a woodburner. I was worried about ash but despite use almost every day in winter and ash dropping on the floor, it's perfectly clean. We used a stain protector on the floor and our (very) efficient woodburner doesn't produce much ash.
