Do you think you will stay in the family home or sell up and downsize and either live it up or help your kids out?

I want to downsize a little - would like to live with DH in a 2/3 bedroomed industrial conversaion or small barn, instead of our present bog standard 4 bedroomed new build. AND I do not want a big garden, sick of gardening.

We have been talking about this for a while. I really want to move into teh town and live in a big apartment instead of a bloody family house

I'm with you noddy. I've already decided the street I want to move to (Bloomsbury/Clerkenwell borders) when my youngest has finished school. Sadly, she only turned 3 on Sunday but I can dream: I'm thinking maisonette with maximum two bedrooms and a nice patio at the back for the reading of novels and sipping of cold drinks. Brisk walks around the British Museum, Sunday lunches in Moro... I could go on.

I am planning as ds is 17 in may and already talking gap years and uni and he also would like to live in the town. Am going to view a few maisonettes to get a feel for them Like you I am imagining a lot of 'wafting around'

Envy at flat. Envy that your son is 17.

Yup - we're buying a yacht.
DCs can come to visit - occasionally.

noddyholder · 05/04/2011 21:26

I really like it too. Dp and I feel really bored with the suburban family house.

I really don't like the idea of mummy and daddy continuing in the bnoring old family home, I want a cool pad! I've worked very hard to get my pre baby body back ( it has taken 20 years all in) and I want to get the rest of the lifestyle to go with it.

bitzermaloney · 07/04/2011 11:31

I don't know. When my parents moved into a little flat it was much harder for us to come and stay overnight - which has meant fewer visits as we have to arrange for somewhere else to stay. I wouldn't want that to happen with mine... On the other hand it obv depends how far away they live - if close enough for a day visit then I'd probably downsize.

We are planning to downsize into a bungalow with a goodsize garden. Having seen parents make the bungalow move too late when they didnt have the energy to do the necessary works we want to make this move early. It probably helps that we renovate bungalows so one day we will do one for ourselves.
