carpet advice!

O dear we seem to have been a bit rash and in a rush bought the Mayfair Ivory 100% polyprop carpet from eek Carpet Right. It is for the upstairs landing 3 bedrooms and up into the loft. We are in the middle of renovating the whole property and trying to restore its Victorian features fireplaces etc.

So then I read reviews that polyprop carpets flatten easily...does anyone have experience of a good quality polyprop? Ours is around £20/sq m. My friend has had this down for a year and it does look really good I guess I'm looking for reassurance!!

If it is truly dreadful I'm hoping that carpet right might allow us to change our order to a 80/20 wool mix but not holding uo much hope for that!

Thanks,

Not sure about your carpet but I have just cancelled an order from Carpetright because they wanted us to pay for the carpet in full prior to delivery and fitting!!

I've owned houses for 20years and had lots of floor coverings and carpets never had to pay in full before the carpet laid and I was happy with it.

Only ordered from them as the shop i had planned to go to wasn't open on a Sunday- Will go to an independant shop .

I don't know if this is of any help, but I have a good quality expensive 80/20 carpet on the stairs and landing and it's flattened where it gets the most traffic. But I think this may be because it's a twist. Perhpas a cord finish would be better, I don't know.

I've just had a good quality polyprop (£20sqm) fitted in the bedrooms and it looks great but too early to tell about flattening. It's got very good underlay which does make a difference. The real upside of polyprop is that it doesn't shed fibres.

I was having to hoover the 80/20 everyday and then every second day for months and my dd was just an infant and frankly I found it took much effort. I found this in itself hugely off-putting, hence the polyprop in the bedrooms. I don't think I'd go for 80/20 twist again because of the fibre shedding. You will find it will shed a lot of fibres on high traffic areas.

Not sure about cancelling/changing your order, but I'm sure you must be able to. Have you paid?

I've always bought from a local independent carpet shop and they've been fab. Great fitters too.

Can i ask if you have experienced flattening now it has been laid for a while? Also, have you spilt anything on it that has not come out or left any marks? I know the stain warranty does not cover all stains e.g. nail varnish, blood.

BTW carpetright quoted me 18.79 per sq m on this carpet. I went to an independent retailer and i have been quoted £13.50 for a better quality (50oz) polyprop. its worth shopping around!! Also carpet right underlay is very overpriced!!

I have polyprop upstairs, it's been down less than 3 yrs and has very definitely flattened!
