I recently bought all of my kitchen appliances (oven, hob, hood, fridge) from bootskitchenappliances.com. They were as cheap as anywhere else that I looked and I earned around £150 worth of Boots points.

we went with a local independent shop. they were very good and did us a deal on prices. delivered free the next day.
was a bit more expensive than we could have got it online, although the free delivery helped balance it a bit and we like to try and support local businesses.
they were fab when we had a problem with one of them too.

CarGirl · 04/04/2011 22:15

which brands did you buy though?

Do I fork out for the more expensive ones or are some the cheaper ones good?

I gave some thought to the functionality I wanted, looked at the range of prices for the models that gave me those functions and worked out the most energy efficient model I could get in the mid-price range. Not terribly scientific, but it worked for me.

There are probably online forums that rate certain models and brands too.

I would suggest going for the best ones you can afford as the liklihood is that they will be with you for many years. My sister went for failry cheap hotpoint stuff and her hob is already scratched. We have just had all miele appliances installed which were £££ but my god they are amazing and so glad we spent the money.

Ealingkate · 05/04/2011 13:34

My friend has a built in oven and microwave/combi and on her advice I just got two built in ovens and stuck the microwave in the utility. The combi ovens are small and alot more expensive and when you have been cooking in them it can be too hot to put in something that you want to microwave.

I only use my microwave for warming up cups of tea, doing frozen peas and defrosting if I'm not organised - so it's not a big deal for mine to be in the utility. I recently bought two Bosch ovens which I love, particularly for the fast heat up function - 180 C in 3 mins and because they have left hand hinges.

I would subscribe to Which if you are buying that many things in one go - you can look at their independent reviews and tests. We are re-doing our kitchen and will need a bunch of new appliances and we are just going to go with some of the Which best buys. I would go mad doing all the research myself!

If anyone has any other good websites for cheap kitchen applicances then do tell me! Grin I didn't know about the Boots one - good tip, thanks.

Wigeon · 05/04/2011 14:17

Just remembered someone told me about Comet's auction site - don't know if it's any good though.

Driftwood999 · 05/04/2011 16:09

We are pleased with our Neff applicances, cooker, microwave, warming draw, induction hob, dishwasher.

cuckooclock · 05/04/2011 22:21

I love my neff double oven, was one of Which best buys and I haven't been disappointed with it.

CarGirl · 05/04/2011 22:29

I am going dizzy trying to work out what to get!

I believe Hotpoint is one of the cheaper and people swear by the more expensive : but (please check) Hotpoint was at least giving a 5 year guarantee on parts (not labour) which is better than nothing if on a budget.I think you need to think of your lifestyle, needs etc How much will you use them and what for? Most of the big kitchen firms eg. Magnet , Wicks do appliance packs which at least do some of the thinking for you. I think if you buy individually (which may be cheaper) you need to find out if oven and hob compatible (if you put them together) I would avoid companies like e.g Howdens who are carpenters and may do great cabinets but do not specialise in appliances. Before you commit do check how much electrical work will be involved eg new/moving of points, (although I beleive most are wired in these days) as it can be an unexpected expense All electric (and gas) has to be up to current standards when adding new appliances (unless the fitters are cowboys)Finally try to get the oven, grill etc up from the floor: I have to bend down every time to get to my main oven so if you have a bad back.. .

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/04/2011 11:18

Something to consider if your house is not newish - you may need a new consumer unit (fuse board) to cope with the load.

Pinkcushion · 06/04/2011 11:34

Neff, Seimens and Bosch are all reviewed well and are mid priced - avoid Baumatic - look good but performance is not great. Just pick on you like. I want a pyrolytic oven for ease of cleaning, make sure the oven is big enough to take you Sunday roast tin. Induction hobs are very slim - they don't need to be the same brand as the oven although - side by side oven Microwave/warming drawer option will look better if the are all the same design - personal preference I guess.

A tip I read on here was John Lewis for appliances. Good customer service and a year guarantee I think. Haven't checked it out yet though.

We are putting in a new kitchen and are going for Neff mostly.

Ealingkate · 07/04/2011 14:47

Check out this website appliancesdirect, also worth checking the ShopBot on here

hobnob · 09/04/2011 12:29

I got all my appliances from a firm called John Waring South I found via eBay- brand new, with complete guarantees, but unboxed so massively cheaper. Altogether I saved £700 - and that's taking into account the cheapest internet prices. We got Neff fridge-freezer, gas hob and hood, electric ovens, including a combi (great), and Siemens dishwasher. Total bargain. I'd recommend them.

Wigeon · 09/04/2011 16:22

hobnob - I've just tried tracking John Waring South down on eBay but I can't find them - eBay only lets you search sellers if you have their user ID (and it doesn't appear if you just search in the general search) - any chance you could post a link?

Thanks also Ealingkate - very useful!

CharlieDaisy2 · 21/11/2019 17:48

I'm in the process of having s new kitchen and new major appliances. I have looked up the 'Which" report to see the best to suit my needs and pocket.

Zenith123 · 21/11/2019 18:08

John Lewis all the way for household stuff. They give a 2 year guarantee and their stuff lasts.

Bubble2019 · 21/11/2019 18:10

I have all the above and all Neff. They haven’t gone wrong in 8 years so I recommend those. How about waiting until the Jan sales. That’s what I did

manicmij · 21/11/2019 20:12

Would suggest a pyrolitic fan oven, they are great. Had mine about 5 years, John Lewis own label but sure it was a Zanussi. Have a Panasonic oven, grill, microwave combination. Very useful for doing small amounts of cooking. Have my eye on a new hob which must be at least 100 cm in size, no decision on which one though as yet.

user1498572889 · 21/11/2019 20:24

Find a local shop that sells good makes E.g.: Bosch. Neff. They will ask what type of cooking you like to do and should only sell you what you need. If in doubt look on the manufacturers web sites and they should tell you who your nearest dealer is. If the staff are well trained they should make it easier for you to choose.
