Just starting to think about replacing the kitchen - we're going to look at some just before easter but we've got a funny little bit of wall in the kitchen. Its hard to explain but the back of the chimney is next to it so we lose that little corner of the kitchen. The available wall space is really about 60cm wide and 42cm deep. We had originally thought about putting a new fridge freezer there but it would be at least 60cm deep so would stand out and block access to the cupboards beyond the funny bit of wall.

I had then thought about putting a shallow cupboard there that would store the microwave with some shallow cupboard space underneath - does this sound do-able? Wall units are that shallow but i dont know if its possible to carry it on to the floor?

Any advice appreciated!

thanks - had a look at the ikea website and the depth is good but they are then too narrow! will keep looking!

This one comes in 40, 60cm or 80cm wide.

You can put wall units on the floor.

My cousin has put two wall cabinets on the floor, and two wall cabinets directly on top of the other wall cabinets. She has glass doors and lights in, and it looks absolutely fab.

My parents have done a similar thing. Wall units on the floor, worktop, and wall units above, on one wall, and they have a microwave on this work top, and pictures of their grandkids, spice racks, and stuff.

You just use the plinth for base cabinet and cut to size.

these, for example are either 70 or 92 tall. So two of those on top of each other will be a cabinet of over 180 tall.

your chippie can just trim the depth without any probs - I have done this in my bathroom as wanted a floor to ceiling of a specific width but shallow depth

thanks for all the replies - had thought of doing something with the microwave in that corner since its shallow enough.

Not buying a kitchen from Ikea but will keep their cupboards in mind for the kitchen we do buy!!

its stressing me out already and we've only just started!!
Thanks again
