Replacing bath with wetroom/level walk-in shower

Anyone have a clue how much this costs roughly? Trying to convince my ILs to move house before they get frail, hence working out the cost of making their current home sustainable.

If the bathroom is downstairs it isn't too onerous, basically the same price as re-doing the bathroom - so maybe 5k to get it done well. (That is for a full bathroom including re-tiling etc)

If the bathroom is upstairs the wetroom option is very expensive - I guess double the price. And even then may not be advisable.

My aunt had her downstairs bathroom turned into a wetroom and it was around 28K - you have to damp proof the room as if its a swimming pool if you have a wetroom, so a lot of work can be involved.

Having said that I don't think she had the cheapest tiles and fittings etc, so it probably could be done cheaper. :)

We saved around £5000 the other year when we built our wetroom. Me and DH 'tanked' the room ourselves. We bought the kit from a tile warehouse although Topp's Tiles did similar. DH built the dropped floor to house the sunken shower tray. And he is no DIYer usually. We paid a professional to lay the underfloor heating and a tiler.

Altogether it cost us around £4k and our tiles weren't cheap. The shower was £500 and the glass screen £700. £28K! Grin

I'd budget £10K but then it depends where your ILs live. I'm up north where everything's cheaper Grin
