Iwant to mix oak and cream units : Which is better ? Plan A: all base units in oak with cream worktop and all wall units in cream Plan B All base units in cream with oak as the wall units? Plan C. Mostly oak units with a couple in cream Plan D Mostly cream with a couple in oak to match solid wood worktop?

I think it looks better with base units one colour and wall units another rather than runs of cupboards mixed colours. If it were me, I would put the cream units on the floor with wooden worktop and wooden cupboards on wall.

Yes you have a point. I did not want all cream cos of the cleaning involved. As the top units are used more it would be sensible to have the oak on top

i don't like the sound of that at all. what colour of oak? what finish on the cream units? how deep are the top cupboards, what style etc?

I have cream for the base units and some of the wall units, and oak for a corner cupboard, a plate rack and a huge larder cupboard. Plus the island is a pale green. I love my kitchen. The cream is F&B Ringwold Ground and the green is F&B some appley colour I can't remember.

My PIL have pale green and oak. Worktops have oak lip on them. Larder is oak (is old-fashioned 1930s style with mini worktop at hip height iyswim). Boiler cupboard is oak and one wall unit in far corner is oak. Rest of units all pale green. Kitchen really quite dark so works well as they have actually used every inch of space for cupboards / drawers.

I want grey and white gloss with white on top (2 full height units all grey) as also very dark with oak worktops / lip / splashback to stop it looking too cold. We also plan to use every inch of space bar one corner where I want oak shelves and to make a feature of it.

I think it works well if you have one area (saying cupboards by cooker) in one finish and other units in the other as long as the units are actually co-ordinated/the same but just different colour. Otherwise it risks looking like the top cupboards were an afterthought and then you couldn't get the same units.

Georgimama · 03/04/2011 09:34

this looks amazing, for example.

Can you not use an online kitchen planner to try out your different combinations ?

l have cappucino and cream high closs units mixed from second nature. Worktop is solid oak. Mixing colours can look good and help frame appliances for instance my range cooker, and highlight individual cupboards like pantries.

Sorry Ceilbin - Just seen your q now. Green units were painted once they were in. Believe was F&B Cooking Apple Green.
