How dull Smile but can I?

I want to bid on a 1960's ceiling light on Ebay, but how do I fit it. Can I do it myself, I don't really understand electrical things?

also it says on the listing

The light comnes without a ceiling rose and has wiring which works ok, as with all older electrical items the light should be checked before installation.

what? Confused

Think you'd need an electriican . There are regulations about fitting electrical wiring and with that age of light you probably don't want to take a chance.

Wiring from the 60s will be different from modern wiring. When DH took down our ceiling light the previous people had installed it by twisting the wires together instead of using a terminal block.
Unless you have electrical knowledge, I would get an electrician, or a friend who knows what they are doing.

right thanks for replying you two. Looks a bit harder than I thought. Is it quite a quick [and cheap] job for a leccy man do you think?

Yes, shouldn't be a tricky job for the leccy man.
